Kamil Yazici: Turkish Tycoon

December 29, 2012 Enterprise No Comments

Kamil Yazici is one of those few people who knows how to run a large conglomerate. As his career has shown he was able to do it by partnering with other talented business people.  He first learned the business of trading when he worked at his father’s small grocery store in Istanbul, Turkey.

He didn’t build his business empire by himself. In the 1950s he started what later on would become the Anadolu Group (one of Turkey’s largest industrial groups) by partnering with Izzet Ozilhan. Today he controls the group with his fellow billionaire Tuncay Ozilhan who sits as Chairman.

Anadolu Efes the huge beverage company owned by the group struck an alliance with brewer SABMiller last year which will give SABMiller 24 percent ownership of Anadolu Efes in return Efes will now operate SABMiller’s operations in Ukraine and Russia. Aside from beer, Anadolu is also expanding its energy enterprise through partnerships. The group has partnered with the Dogus and Dogan Group to construct the Aslancik Dam and Hydroelectric Plant which is planned to be operational by the year 2014. There is also a $150 million investment in Georgia for another plant.

Kamil has deftly built his business empire by striking key alliances along the way.
