Arnon Milchan was born in 1944 in Rehovot, British Mandate for Palestine. He is a very successful movie producer who has produced more than 120 full-length motion pictures. Milchan produced popular movies like” L.A. Confidential”, “The Devil’s Advocate”, “Unfaithful”, “The War of the Roses”,” Under Siege”, “Pretty Woman”, and “Once Upon a Time in America”.
Milchan who is Jewish and resides in Israel is well-educated having studied at the University of Geneva Interpreters School and the London School of Economics. He was once a professional soccer player. Milchan returned to Israel when his father died and also fought in The Six Day War and The Yom Kippur War.
He took over his father’s bankrupted fertilizer company. Milchan was a good businessman expanding the enterprise into a $125 million business involved in agriculture, animal health products, aerospace, pharmaceuticals, plastic and fiber optics.
Milchan began his association with the film industry in the 1970s producing and financing films in Israel when he was in his early thirties. In 1977 Milchan got his first screen credit as producer of “Black Joy”. He then went international and produced commercials for French TV.
In 1981 Milchan made his TV producing debut with the ABC miniseries, “Masada”. He began producing in Hollywood in 1983 with “King of Comedy”. A significant business move Milchan made was when he helped form the Summit Group in 1991; a joint venture with Andrew Vajna’s Cinergi Productions and Bernd Eichinger’s Constanin Films to work with his Regency International in order to handle foreign distribution rights on films they produce as well as select other films.
Milchan is now a billionaire and a close friend to many Hollywood stars and personalities. There are certainly many people in this planet that would want to live that kind of a life. Yet there is more to Milchan, he was a spy for the Israel government reportedly in the 1960s and 1970s. There are publications that state he is still active in the intelligence arena. Now that’s the kind of life even James Bond would want to have.
